The other day I had the most heartwarming conversation with Mr. Chiu. It was a question that throughout all our lives, we will constantly come back to. The question was: How do I be happy?

He talked about a girl who wanted him to stop being negative about the prospects of her sports team. To her positivity or happiness was behaving like everything was ok. But Mr. Chiu taught me that happiness was only a feeling so like all emotions…

As I sat down beside my friend, I asked how her game in the Olympics went. She laments to me that everyone ignored her; none of her teammates passed her the ball and she simply stood there for the whole time. I sighed and comforted her, but I was not surprised. This is what happens when we focus too much on ideals and not on real incentives.

When most think of an argument, all that comes to mind is fire. There may be rage, shouting, crying, maybe even kissing but the one constant is that everything is on fire.

A few years ago, I would have thought the same. Growing up in a household filled with daily shouting, I saw arguments rip and shred my family apart. But now rather than a separator, I see arguments as something that brings us closer together.
